The Carbon Trust and Changes with Green Business Fund
The Carbon Trust recently changed the maximum contributions that can be provided from the Green Business Fund.
The Carbon Trust Green Business Fund is the energy efficiency support service for small and medium-sized companies in England, Wales and Scotland. It provides direct funded support through energy assessments, training workshops, equipment procurement support and up to £5,000 capital contribution per company towards your energy saving equipment purchase.
The new upper limit of capital contribution has reduced from the previous maximum of £10,000 to £5,000 for all new applicants as of 10th August 2017. We asked the Carbon Trust why and they simply stated that it was to counteract the surge in popularity
The maximum percentage contribution available under the scheme has reduced to 15% from the previous 30%. The Carbon Trust has informed all accredited members that the application will not change as a result but with the smallest contribution being set at £750 this does mean that projects need to be valued at £5,000 as a minimum to be eligible. Everything else will remain as it was in regard to the application process and eligibility.
Who can apply to the Green Business Fund?
The Green Business Fund is an energy efficiency support service aimed primarily at SMEs in England, Wales and Scotland. SMEs are defined as such if they meet two of the three following criteria:
• No more than 250 employees;
• Annual turnover not in excess of £25.9m; or
• Annual balance sheet not in excess of £12.9m
and if they are not more than 25% owned by an entity which does not meet the criteria.
Franchises are also eligible providing they have a different registered company number and are a separate legal entity to their managing partnership.
As a Carbon Trust accredited supplier we can apply for the grant for on behalf of your company.
Unfortunately the Carbon Trust will not accept applications direct as the projects need to be carried out by a Carbon Trust accredited supplier.
